About Briony Beattie
I grew up during a time of turmoil when Rhodesia was heading toward independence and there was an ongoing civil war. A farmer’s daughter, I lived in Zimbabwe for twenty-five years before the injustices of its political upheaval forced my family to immigrate to the UK in 2000.
I am a disabled woman with cerebral palsy. This has affected three of my limbs, my right arm and both my legs. I started writing as part of a healing process in the hope of putting some ghosts to rest and hopefully finding and accepting some inner peace. Everyday life is exceptionally difficult for me to cope with, both in a physical and mental context.
However, through my exposure to the amazing stories of the servicemen and women who have been injured, whether physically and/or mentally in recent wars I have been inspired by their courage and determination to heal and move beyond their disabilities, often soldiering on, no matter what! This has helped me on a personal level when I have my own times of self-doubt. I am extremely humbled and grateful for the motivation these brave men and women continue to provide me.

Mission
Founded on 5 March 2026, The Busy Bee Initiative is a platform dedicated to raising
awareness, encouraging dialogue, and driving understanding around disability, accessibility,
and the lived realities of navigating a world that is not always built for everyone.
Created by Briony Beattie, whose lived experience of cerebral palsy affects both legs and her
right arm, the initiative brings together personal writing, reflection, and storytelling to
highlight both the visible and invisible barriers disabled people face in everyday life.
At the heart of The Busy Bee Initiative is the use of artificial intelligence to enhance
accessibility and amplification. By transforming Briony’s own lived experiences and personal
writings into podcast conversations and digital storytelling, AI becomes the moving arm that
helps carry these experiences further — enabling stories, insights, and advocacy to reach
wider audiences.
The Busy Bee Initiative is not a charity or foundation, but a platform built on the belief that
lived experience matters and that meaningful conversations can drive meaningful change.
Guided by the principle “Nothing about us without us,” the mission of The Busy Bee
Initiative is to amplify disabled voices, challenge perceptions, and contribute to building a
more accessible and inclusive world for everyone.
Vision
The vision of The Busy Bee Initiative is to create a world where disability is understood
through lived experience, accessibility is treated as a fundamental part of society, and
disabled voices are central to conversations that shape our communities.
By combining lived experience with innovative technology, the initiative aims to challenge
perceptions, break down barriers, and encourage meaningful dialogue about disability,
inclusion, and representation.
Through the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence as an accessibility tool, The Busy Bee
Initiative seeks to demonstrate how technology can empower individuals with disabilities to
share their experiences, influence understanding, and contribute to building a more inclusive
future.
At its core, the vision is simple: a society where no one is excluded because the world failed
to consider them.

Lived Experience First
The Busy Bee Initiative is grounded in real-life experience. Authentic stories and personal reflections guide every conversation, ensuring that disability is discussed by those who live it.
Nothing About Us Without Us
Disabled people must be included in conversations, decisions, and narratives that affect their lives. Representation and participation are essential for meaningful change.
Accessibility and Inclusion
Accessibility should never be an afterthought. The initiative advocates for environments, systems, and attitudes that allow everyone to participate fully in society.

Technology as Empowerment
Artificial intelligence is embraced as a tool for accessibility and independence. Used responsibly, technology can help remove barriers and amplify voices that may otherwise struggle to be heard.
Awareness Through Conversation
Open dialogue is key to understanding. By
encouraging thoughtful discussion about disability, the initiative aims to challenge assumptions and expand perspectives.
Advocacy Through Storytelling
Stories have the power to educate, connect, and inspire change. By sharing lived experiences, The Busy Bee Initiative seeks to transform awareness into action.
